Human Semblance Storyline

[Lex'Talionis]

In the year 2021, humans have incremented their technology by far; far too much for what was safe for the curious, human mind. A scientist by the name of Steven Hunter had finally come to a conclusion with his studies. Only 6 months ago had he finally stood there with a needle loaded with the product, the outcome of all of this time he's spent researching and experimenting. A cemetery could not maintain the amount of lab rats he's ended up killing over the years. This time around he'd believed it would be different. This injection would at last give animals a sentient consciousness to further strengthen human armies for wars.

When he injected the wolf with a hefty dosage, it started behaving abnormally. It went into a frenzy as though it were infected by rabies before settling. Then it changed its appearance. Its body seemed to rot and bits of flesh slid down its brittle bones like water down a slope. It carried the stench of a corpse and soon it became ravenous and bore an apetite that wouldn't be satisfied even by the most large of butcheries.

Then he hastily tried to do the same thing to another specimen, a bear. Perhaps to see if he could at least prove that it could be successful on another creature. It reacted the same way initially, going into a frenzy. It clawed at the bars and then fell, appearing to have died. Steven approached to check to see if it was alive; human error. Then it attacked, slashing the man with its massive and powerful paws; its strength seemed to be augmented, sending Steven back and lacerating his skin. The bear then began to deteriorate and rot but its hunger and anger never ceased. It seemed to continue to be animate and alive despite looking much more like a corpse. He then felt peculiar; he himself began to be affected in the same way! His vision blackened and he was absorbed by both his hunger and anger. The irony, he'd lost both his consciousness and turned into nothing but an animated corpse, infecting the other humans while trying to give animals a consciousness.

The humans and other animals have been effected and cities, countries, all have been destroyed. They are inhabited by 'them', the infected. They hunt, constantly move, especially when night strikes. The humans now have settled into a small refuge camp in Canada. Their population has been reduced by at least 95%.
